Peanut Can Explosion

Back

A demonstration performed for Mr. Harshman's Chemistry 1 class at Sarasota High School in Sarasota, Florida. Lycopodium powder is spread over a fire and subsequently combusts inside a peanut can, shooting the lid off. The explosion is rather large for the amount of powder used due to the amount of surface area taken up by the spreading of the powder. Do NOT try this at home...this demonstration should only be performed by a trained professional.
