SCREEN GODDESSES: Lucia Bosé, hats and Milan
BackLucia Bosé (born 1931) plays a femme fatale in Michelangelo Antonioni's first feature film Cronaca di un amore (1950). The story and, I believe, also the visual style are much influenced by Hollywood and especially film noir, but the director's love for architecture, geometry and the elegance and vulgarity of the Italian bourgeoisie are already evident. The first sequence is a meeting at the Idroscalo (big pool originally intended as an airstrip for flying boats), it's followed by an elegant townhouse and Bosé wearing a wide range of hats that tell their own story. The last sequence is part of a long single take on the bridge over a canal outside Milan where the lovesick sucker (Massimo Girotti) plans to shoot the woman's husband.
