Oktoberfest fairgrounds at Theresienwiese

Back

I liked Oktoberfest primarily for the overall festive sentiment throughout the city, but naturally we couldn't leave without a peek at the fabled beer tents. The fairgrounds were a bit to the south of the Hauptbahnhof, and it was like a ([carnival+keg party)/2]*100. The primary features were crowds (you must reserve seats in the tents--which contrary to their name are spacious halls--months in advance, or get in very early in the day), food vendors selling horrendously overpriced hotdogs, ice cream, candied nuts, dozens of stalls selling susswarten-- the gingerbread valentines hung around the neck of the adored--and brightly lit up rides. i was astonished that the combination of beer and whirly spinny things didn't have us all swimming in a sea of vomit. the germans are very neat revelers.
