The parasites in fish, your cat or dog, and in us. Cestodes.

Back

The topic of Medical Parasitology continues with this video, the Cestodes volume II, and includes Echinococcus granulosus (Hydatid disease), Hymenolepis nana, a common parasite of the house mouse and is found worldwide, Hymenolepis diminuta, which requires an arthropod intermediate host, Diphyllobothrium latum, the broad fish tapeworm (cook your fish) and Dipylidium caninum, which is common in cats and dogs all over the world. The Atlas at the beginning of the video is to inform doctors of other infectious diseases in the world that must always be kept in mind in today's global travels and to offer a diagnostic reference. For the Cestodes in the video, the drugs of choice are just a few Albendazole, Praziquantel, Niclosamide and Nitazoxanide. You can readily access more information at www.cdc.org. I will continue to post videos that relate to Medical Parasitology and infectious diseases. The best manner to treat disease is by its prevention, which is often possible. While I post these works, I am re-editing the video you're seeing and compiling them into DVD format, high resolution, which I will make available to the world in one or two years. Pause the video in order to best study the embedded information. A clinical image is worth a thousand words. Luis Lomeli, M.D./Beta
