Adieu To You [ch. 34]
BackI stood frozen for a second. I had never heard Nick yell like that. I didn't know it was even possible to make him that mad. What just happened between him and Kenzie had to have been serious. Once the shock wore off, I was able to talk. "Joe, what just happened?" He didn't say anything, so I walked back into the living room so I could see him. His shock hadn't worn off yet. "Joe?" "Was that Nick who just yelled ...at a girl?" Joe asked, confused. "I'm gonna go talk to him - unless you want to." "You go, Claire. I wouldn't know what to say." I gave Joe a peck on the cheek and walked up to Nick's room. I turned the door handle and it was unlocked, but I didn't open it right away. "Nick?" I said, softly. The door opened slowly and Nick was standing infront of me. Not only were his eyes red, but his entire face was. His cheeks were stained with tears. He kept whiping his eyes trying to stop them. I didn't know what was going through his mind or what just happened, but I wrapped my arms around him and gave him the best hug I could. I think he felt uncomfortable hugging in the doorway, because he got out of the hug and took my hand. He closed the door and brought me into his room. We sat on the floor with our backs leaning against his bed. Nick tried talking, but it was hard to understand what he was saying through the sobs. "Nick, honey, calm down. It's going to be okay." He placed his head on my shoulder. "No. It's not." I put my arm around him and gave him a half-hug sorta thing. "Nick, you don't have to tell me what happened if you don't want to, but -" He inturupted me. "You were right." "I'm right?" "I should've never given Kenzie a second chance." "You're confusing me, Nick." He looked up at me. "Kenzie cheated on me." I sighed. "That's not new to me," I managed to say in a comforting way. He shook his head. "No. She ...really... cheated on me." "What do you mean?" "Don't make me spell it out for you - please!" He burst into tears again. Now I understood. I didn't know what to say, so I just sat in silence with him. After a while, he spoke. "Am I not good enough?" "Nick! Don't you ever again think that!" "Well, if she went off with some other guy..." "No, Nick! You're too good for her. She doesn't know what she's missing." He was quiet for a while until, "Claire?" "Yeah?" "Don't tell my brothers about this." Why would it matter if his brothers knew? Joe probably already had some idea about it. But I agreed, "This is between you and me, Nick. Don't worry." "Good. I just don't want to be the guy who cried over a girl." The door opened. "Is everything okay?" It was Joe. "I'm alright now, Claire. You can go," Nick said. He was right, no more tears were coming from his eyes. I left with Joe and he brought me across the hall to his room. (60 views + 10 comments = next chapter)
