Trust Me - Chapter 13
BackJAKE IS DEAD! That is the only thought that crossed my mind as I sat in the cold metal chair, in the hospital waiting room. The doctors had been with Jake for a half an hour now. I sat there limply starring at the wall. Jake is dead and it's all my fault. That is the only thought that has crossed my mind since a nurse had sat me down in this chair. I was petrified I was going to lose Jake. Someone sat down next to me. I didn't look up. I didn't care who it was unless it was Jake. And I knew it wasn't. The person put their arms around me but when I didn't hug back or even move they let me go. "Carmela, I'm really sorry, I left. It was selfish and stupid and it will never happen again. I promise. Even if you only want to be friends with me, I will never leave you alone again." Nick said sadly. I didn't turn to look at him. I didn't say anything in response to his apology. At the moment, I didn't care. I just wanted Jake to be okay. I couldn't deal with this right now. "Carmela, please say something, anything." He waited for my response but I was so lost in my thoughts of Jake I barely noticed he was talking to me. "I'm going to go ask about Jake. I will be right back." He told me kindly. As Nick was about to get up, a doctor walked over to us. I looked up at him. I have some good new for you Ms. Cruz. Jacob is stable again. And he is awake. I stood up so quickly, my knees buckled and I almost fell. Nick caught me by the arm but he didn't let go. He slid his hand down my arm until our hands were intertwined. I started crying hysterically. Then I pulled Nick into a huge hug. He smiled down at me. "Does this mean you forgive me?" He asked. I tried to answer him but the words refused to leave my mouth. Instead, I just nodded. Nick and I stood there smiling at each other. "Excuse me." The doctor interjected. I was still crying so Nick took over for me. He turned to face the doctor and put one arm around my waist. "Can we go see him now?" Nick asked the doctor. "Yes but there are a few things you should know. As I told you before, his leg is broken and he has some bruises on his ribs. Also, we have thoroughly checked him and he has no brain damage, but he did suffer from a concussion. "Okay, so may we go see him now?" Nick asked slightly impatient. "Yes, go ahead." The doctor replied with a smile. Nick and I rushed to Jake's room. I threw open the door. Jake was sitting there on the bed. The moment he saw me his face lit up. I hurried to his side and hugged him, never wanting to let go. He was alive. He was okay. Nick walked up to us. Jake's face lit up again. Everything was perfect now. Let's just hope it will stay this way. Nothing is too good to be true. Nothing is too wonderful to happen.
