Stefano Pavesi - Agatina, o La Virtu premiata - Terzetto
BackStefano Pavesi Opera: Agatina, o La Virtu premiata, Dramma semiserio in two acts, first performance 10 april 1814, Teatro alla Scala, Milan. Libretto: Francesco Fiorini Terzetto: Come Paride alle Grazie Clorinda: Marilyn Hill Smith Tisbe: Andrea Bolton Dandini: Geoffrey Dolton Orchestra: Philharmonia Orchestra Conductor: David Parry Pavesi's opera Agatina was a forerunner to Rossini's "La Cenerentola". The libretto Feretti wrote to Rossini has been described as'a right and proper plagiarism since he know the text to Pavesi's work so well. The two characters of Dandini and Alidoro was Fiorini's own innovation. The trio 'Come Paride alle Grazie' takes place in the first act, when the valet Dandini, disguised as his master, Prince Ramiro, calls on the Baron of Montefiascone and his daugthers, Clorinda and Tisbe. A charming and quite witty terzetto but the final movement is a heavily accented rather lumpish finale, still, Pavesi sets the italian words with point and relish, so that this is a trio which offers its interpreters ample opportunity for vocal acting and comic interplay.
