6. The Anthem of Our Lives - A Jonas Story
Back"Two Weeks to Christmas!" Aunt Renee sang as she wafted about the house a duster in and smile on her face. Nicole lay on the couch, iPod in her ears eyeing her aunt. She couldn't help but laugh. Renee was such a happy person, always looking at the positive in life. And God knows Nicole needed that right now. "Come help me Nicks!" Renee laughed as she pulled Nicole up from the couch. "Take this and get a move on! And don't be afraid to sing." She said, nodding towards the iPod as she waltzed off, leaving Nicole standing in the lounge with a duster in her hand. Nicole smiled carefully to herself. As she began to make her way around the house, she noticed preparations were in full swing. There was to be a major dinner for all the families in the street on Christmas Eve and boy was Renee the party thrower. Only that morning had she dragged Nicole around the shops searching for the perfect outfit. They had eventually found something, only it was a bit to pricy for Nicole's liking, but Renee had insisted. After she had finished dusting, Nicole made her way to the kitchen, the source of all that was good and holy. It was here that Nicole felt the best, and the worst. It was a definite that both Nicole's mother and Renee were the best cooks ever, having grown up with a chef as a father. All Nicole's emotions tended to collide in the kitchen, but she couldn't stay away. Renee motioned for Nicole to come in and sit at the counter. "Try this!" She grinned as she placed a hot froth before Nicole. "Turkey Stew!" Nicole eyed the mixture apprehensively. "Aren't Turkey's for Thanksgiving?" she asked. "Yes, but who doesn't like a good Turkey Stew? Now try some!" Renee plonked a fork by the bowl and sat on the stool, watching Nicole intently. Nicole picked up the spoon and scooped up some of the red slush. Taking a cautionary sip, Nicole was surprised. It tasted amazing. Within minutes Nicole had finished the whole bowl. Renee smiled. "My father taught me that." She said. "He gave your mother and me our specialities. Your mother's was that fabulous Meringue Cheesecake that I have never managed to replicate (AN: try it, my mum makes it, I tried to like once...never again. But seriously! YUM). He always wanted to instil individuality in us, and tried to show us that we could be our own person, we could make it without the other by our side." Renee quickly cast her eyes down, as the words escaped from her lips, and busied herself with cleaning the work bench. The memories had obviously pained her. Nicole leaned over and reached for her arm. "Thank you Renee." She whispered. Renee smiled. Nicole looked around. "Where are Uncle John and Jamie?" she asked. "Your uncle took him next door. The neighbours have a boy about his age, Franklin. Cute little fellow." Renee replied. "And his brothers aren't half bad either." Nicole winced. "Please don't tell me that." She said. "I'm not really ready right now." She thought back to Cardiff, and her not so happy ex...James. Renee shrugged. "Suit yourself, but don't think that I'm going to allow your paths to go uncrossed at the party." She wagged her finger at Nicole. Nicole smiled weakly. "I've got to go... shower..." Renee smiled to herself as the girl walked out the room. Nicole was an amazing actress, she could fool anyone into thinking she was ok. But Renee had known her mother. And it was plain that Nicole and Dora were so similar. Nicole was broken. Renee just hoped that the boys would provide a friendship for her, something to bring her out of the depression. AND THERE ARE THE 3 I PROMISED!! SORRY...I WILL TRY UPDATE MORE FREQUENTLY, I HAVE JUST GOT A HOLD OVER MY HOMEWORK NOW, SO IT IS NO LONGER OVERWHELMING ME!
