Final Destination (Channel 4 1982-1984)

Back

This was the second of the original eight trade test tapes which Channel 4 got the trade test enthusiasts of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland to listen to way back in 1982 (S4C had different tapes). But, in 1983, with the introduction of a ninth tape entitled 21 Denmark Street, it became characteristic for Channel 4's engineers to become far too lazy to change the tapes in sequence every hour, and so, it became cutomary for the nine tapes to be joined together in three three-hour packages, which meant that for Final Destination the opening track needed to be removed and this is continued with Prelude, Astral Lover and Star Enterprise. Also, later in 1983, Channel 4 started showing 4-Tel and ORACLE teletext pages when the CATS system was introduced at Channel 4's studios which meant that everything had been transmitted automatically rather than manually as had been the case at the time.
