Purple loosestrife beetles

Back

the Nashua River Watershed Association sponsors a "beetle rancher" project in which volunteers raise gaperucella beetles and release them into the wild where purple loosestrife is present. The beetles eat the invasive plants until they die. Daily News editor in chief Richard Lodge wrangled himself some beetles and let them loose at the Groton Rail Trail on Broadmeadow Road in July 2008. www.metrowestdailynews.com
