Then they don't do it. If it is mandatory it is not voluntary!

Franklin15, then volunteer your OWN children.

Amen! Franklin15, are you a fucking idiot? SO OK, how about you just go and kill yourself, seriously. It's brainwashed SHEEPLE like you that got us into this fucking mess. RON PAUL 2012. That man is our only fucking hope.

right!
MaDammitBeach (November 11th, 2008 @ 12:15 am)
now that is definately not a true statement. If its an offer instead of mandatory it will be a better outcome. who does your thinking for you?
MaDammitBeach (November 11th, 2008 @ 12:05 am)
I agree. We should be able to have the choice of what we want to do when we want to do it and for the amount of cookies we want.

(continued) We need an educated citizenship to keep innovation going most notably for science, mathematics & technology. Not only in the expanding areas of energy & green technology but for medicine, computing, physics and space exploration. If the US does not invest in the youth of today we risk to find ourselves losing ground in emerging technologies markets with fewer US peer reviewed papers being cited by the global community--now THIS is a frightening scenario!

An internship in any setting is exactly the same thing, except it benefits business. How are these not two different sides of the same coin? Students volunteer 100's of hours at the university level in order to gain experience for future job opportunities. With the promise of educational funding the volunteering is not only more lucrative but could go a long way towards funding an education that otherwise might not have been possible. Innovation is what drives the American economy!

Not self centered, but unfortunately most kids (or just people in general) dont do any volunteer work unless it is mandatory. Making someone do volunteer work starting at a young age will make that person feel that giving to the community is a natural aspect of being an American citizen

Guess what obama or mccain id doesnt matter we were heading to a globalist in the white house Bush's last act was to make sure globalism wasnt impeded wow now we see who would do it did anyone think a republican can get globalism done nope its gonna be a democrat the only thing republicans can do is lay the groundwork for the next globalist

Franklin15, just because I'm a young man means I'm self-centered? Thanks for stereotyping. How would you feel if the government chose your job for you? Would you be upset, or would it make you feel "very American"?

Maracachucho, the website didn't say anything about paying students if they performed their mandatory "volunteer" work for 50 hours a year. It says that students are only guaranteed "payment" if they "volunteer" to do 100.
