This song was actually written by JERRY REED who released it in 1967. Jimmy Dean came out with his version in 1968 followed by Johnny Cash's hit version and then Elvis in 1971. All other versions are also here on YOUTUBE. Glen Campbell has a great version but it is hard to find. Jerry died today (Sept. 2, 2008) after a long bout with emphyzema. Too many years of smoking. REST IN PEACE JERRY!

Great job on a classic. Didnt realise this was Jimmy Dean, Ive only heard it by Johnny Cash and thought that he was the first to do it. Sorry Ive been quiet for a little while, Ive been on holiday.
